i am a psychotherapist in private practice in toronto and i teach yoga (postures, breathing, meditation, ethics, psychology) in academic, conference and studio settings internationally. i co-lead centre of gravity sangha, a creative community of yoga and buddhist practitioners in toronto, ontario, canada, interested in the integration of commited practice and thoughtful study. we offer silent meditation retreats, courses, instruction, along with yoga asana classes, pranayama, philosophy and community activities.

my yoga practice is in the tradition(s) of krishnamacharya and i am a long-time student of richard freeman. i am also a practitioner of buddhism (see blog for details of teachers, approach, practice, etc.)

i teach throughout canada and the united states on the clinical application of mindfulness meditation, particularly in fields of medicine, palliative care, psychotherapy, nursing and psychiatry.

my interest revolves around the inseperability of psychological change, spiritual awakening, ecological awarenss and social action. how yoga and buddhist practices move from formal technique into daily life is the thrust of our work at centre of gravity in toronto.

i have authored numerous articles on yoga, mindfulness, psychotherapy and ecology and have authoured a forthcoming book on the psychology of yoga, “The Inner Tradition of Yoga” with shambhala publication (boston, june, 2008); another book, yoga engaged, is also on its way, dealing with non-harming as it applies to contemporary forms of suffering including suicide, ecological degradation, opression, capitalism and a redefinition of basic sanity.

my academic background includes studies in philosophy, psychology, comparative religion, basic sanskrit and a master’s degree in psychoanalytic thought.

i am a father and live with my partner, michelle in toronto.
